Can I Buy a SCOBY?

Yes! Stop in anytime. We make our own SCOBY’s and they come with enough starter tea to get started. We also offer home brewing kits & classes.

Is your kombucha pasteurized?

No, Bootleg Bucha is a raw, unpasteurized product full of live, beneficial bacteria.

Is Bootleg Bucha a low calorie beverage?

Yes, our kombucha is low in sugar and calories; there are 5-7 grams of sugar in each 8 oz serving of kombucha and 35 calories. Not all kombucha is as low in calories and sugar as ours.

What does Bootleg Bucha taste like?

Kombucha is naturally sour from the fermentation process so some kombucha is an acquired taste. We set out to make our kombucha enjoyable for all and are proud that Bootleg Bucha has a mild flavor. Our kombucha is a slightly tart, slightly sweet, low sugar, carbonated beverage.

How many flavors does Bootleg Bucha offer?

We have 6 flavors available for distribution; Blueberry Lavender, Cranberry Grape, Ginger, Hibiscus Lime, Pomegranate, Tart Cherry Mint & a seasonal flavor.  We offer more flavors on tap in our tasting room, located at 1250 Niagara Street. Follow us on instagram or facebook to keep up our rotating flavors.

Are you certified organic?

Bootleg Bucha currently uses organic teas, organic cane sugar, and organic herbs. We are working on sourcing all of our fruit juices and will be 100 percent organic and organic certified in 2018.

How much kombucha should I drink?

We suggest starting at 6-8 ounces a day and then drink as much as you’d like. Kombucha is a great low sugar carbonated beverage and a great soda replacement. Some of us drink 4-6 pints a day at work.

Where can I find Bootleg Bucha products?

We’ve got a finder on our website and update it regularly. If you’ve got a location that you’d like to see our offerings, let us know.

What is in kombucha?

Our kombucha is made from purified water, fair trade organic cane sugar, organic tea, SCOBY; and is flavored with fruit juices and herbs.

What is SCOBY?

S.C.O.B.Y. (symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast) aka mother, is used to refer to mixed cultures of bacteria and yeast present during production of kombucha. It’s the living home for bacteria and yeast that transforms tea into tangy, fizzy kombucha. Think of the SCOBY as the coral reef of the bacteria and yeast world.

When is Bootleg Bucha open?

Our tasting room at 1250 Niagara Street is open 7 days a week, Monday – Friday 9am – 7pm, Saturday 9am – 5pm & Sunday 11am – 3pm. We typically have 8-10 flavors on tap for flights, growler fills and cups. The store also has bottles to go and cool Bootleg merchandise.

Is there alcohol in kombucha?

Yes, there is a slight amount of alcohol in kombucha. Currently, we test each batch to verify that our product is under 0.5%. It’s about the same as a NA beer.

Is there caffeine in kombucha?

Yes, there is slight amount of caffeine. The base of our kombucha is a blend of five teas. During the fermentation process, the SCOBY feeds off of the caffeine and reduces the level in your glass. Ultimately, we end up with less caffeine in a typical green tea and classify as caffeine free.
